Robert L. J. Spence, Jr.

Robert Spence co-founded SpenceWalk, PLLC, in April 2005 to realize his vision of a truly integrated law firm with a depth of knowledge and exceptional work quality unmatched by any in West Tennessee and beyond. Using his extensive knowledge in the areas of business, employment and general litigation and mediation as well as in municipal law and complex outsourcing solutions, Spence presents a wealth of knowledge and a particular skill in civil litigation.

Serving as City Attorney for the largest municipality in the Sate of Tennessee proves Spence with the varied knowledge base necessary to successfully manage multifarious legal issues. Spence’s many statewide, regional and national relationships formed through more than a decade of municipal law practice and years of community service will prove invaluable for the clients of SpenceWalk, PLLC.

Spence is a former director of the Memphis Bar Association, a member of the American Bar Association, the National Bar Association, and the Tennessee Bar Association. Spence is a Tennessee Bar Association Fellow and has served as director of Memphis Area Legal Services, former director of the University of Memphis Cecil C. Humph School of Law Alumni Board, former member of the University of Memphis Law School Scholarship Committee, and former director of the American Heart Association. Spence was chairman of the 2002 Nutcracker Ball benefiting Ballet Memphis, is a current member of the board of directors of the Memphis Biotech Foundation, Ballet Memphis, and of the University of Tennessee Chancellors’ Roundtable, and serves as General Counsel for Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. – South Central Province.

Spence received his Juris Doctor in 1986 from Memphis State University, receiving the American Jurisprudence Award for Excellence in Procedure III and Federal Courts. He was a member of the Law Review Staff from 1984-1986 and was Associate Editor of the Law Review 1985-1986. Spence also received his Pharmacy Degree in 1982 from the University of Tennessee Center for Health Sciences, Memphis and practiced the profession for four years.
